Youth Minister

Saint Mark the Evangelist is looking for an individual to serve as Youth Minister. The youth minister will support the vision of Lifelong Formation at Saint Mark through planning and leading programming for middle school youth group (6th-8th grade) and high school youth group (9th-12th grade). The youth minister will work closely with the Director of Lifelong Formation and other parish staff to help form young people into disciples of Jesus Christ.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. The youth minister will report to and collaborate with the Director of Lifelong Formation to establish and pursue a mission of evangelization, service, and discipleship for the youth of the parish.
2. Responsible for implementing a culture that is welcoming to all youth, fosters meaningful relationships among peers, and encourages youth to grow in their faith.
3. Oversee various youth programming as assigned by the Director of Lifelong Formation.
4. Attend the regularly scheduled youth events on Sunday nights and Wednesday Night Lives.
5. Establish a rapport with parents, volunteers, and parish staff that communicates the joy of the Gospel.
6. Recruit volunteers to assist in the mission of Youth Formation at Saint Mark.
7. Communicate important information to parents in a timely, professional manner (event dates, retreat information, registration information, etc.).
8. Visibility and involvement in the life of the parish and families of the youth.
9. Attend any staff meetings and workshops.
10. Communicate the needs of the youth and their families to the Pastor, Parish Council, Director of Lifelong Formation, and Director of Operations.
11. Collaborate with other members of the pastoral staff to determine the direction and vision of youth formation.
12. Other Duties as Assigned

- Must possess a servant-leadership mindset.
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule that will include weekends and evenings. Also occasionally includes overnight, off-campus retreats, conferences, etc.
- Must maintain a positive, self-starting, solution centered, and friendly attitude.
- Must have proficiency in problem solving, collaboration, organization, time management, and effective communication.
- Must be able to listen well and take direction.
- Must be able to easily interact and relate with a wide range of ages and personalities.
- Must have the ability and experience to design and implement a variety of children and youth-oriented faith building, catechetical, social, service, and worship opportunities.

Assistant Director of Music for Children & Youth

Saint Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church seeks a faithful, energetic, and skilled Assistant Director of Music to assist in the parish's mission of fostering beautiful and reverent sacred music. The primary responsibility of this position is the establishment, development, direction and growth of the parish' graded children's and youth choir program. The Assistant Director of Music will work collaboratively with the Director of Music and parish staff to cultivate a love for sacred music among young people and to support the broader musical life of the parish.
This position is ideal for an individual who is passionate about Catholic liturgy, music education, and forming young disciples through participation in the Church's rich musical tradition.

Children's and Youth Choir Program
• Direct and develop graded children's choirs and youth choirs.
• Plan and lead regular rehearsals during the academic year.
• Prepare choirs for participation in parish liturgies and special events.
• Teach healthy vocal technique, music literacy, and age-appropriate sacred repertoire.
• Foster a prayerful and joyful rehearsal environment that encourages spiritual and musical growth.
• Recruit and retain choir members through collaboration with parish families, school programs, and faith formation ministries.
• Coordinate choir schedules, music distribution, and communication with parents.

Additional Responsibilities
• Maintain music library materials related to children's and youth choirs.
• Attend music ministry meetings and staff meetings as requested.
• Promote the vision of sacred music articulated in Church documents, including the teachings of the Second Vatican Council and subsequent liturgical guidance.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Music or Pastor.

Qualifications
• Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church and supportive of Catholic teaching.
• Demonstrated experience in choral directing, music education, or youth music ministry.
• Ability to work effectively with children, youth, parents, volunteers, and parish staff.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Familiarity with Catholic liturgy and sacred music traditions.
• Ability to teach music reading and basic vocal technique.

Preferred Qualifications
• Keyboard and piano proficiency strongly preferred.
• Degree or coursework in music, music education, sacred music, or a related field.
• Experience directing children's choirs in a church or school setting.
• Familiarity with Gregorian chant, hymnody, and quality contemporary sacred music.

Schedule
• Approximately 10-15 hours per week.
• Flexible schedule with regular evening rehearsals and weekend liturgical responsibilities.
• Additional hours may be required during major liturgical seasons and parish events.

Reporting Relationship
The Assistant Director of Music reports directly to the Director of Music and works under the supervision of the Pastor of Saint Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church.
